Magnetic Card Reader

Protect Your Inventory with a Magnetic Card Reader

If you own a business that has expensive inventory, you know how important it is to protect it at all times. Now what happens if that inventory is readily accessible to many different personnel and you are constantly finding out that things are missing? You can try and use a camera system, but they have a lot of blind spots and can be very costly. You can hire a guard, but that is dead money and hurts the bottom line. Think about investing in a magnetic card reader instead.

While there will be some upfront costs associated with this, they are more or less one time and in all honesty, will probably pay for it rather quickly. As compared to having a human guard that can fall to temptation or just look the other way on occasion, you eliminate that entirely. What you are getting is an inexpensive alternative to help you maintain your inventory securely.

This is a very effective tool because it promotes accountability. If you leave for the evening and you know you have 20 steaks in the freezer and then come back the next day to only 10 left, but 8 were sold, you know something happened to them. Before the magnetic card reader was installed, you would have to question the entire staff and would probably face nothing but lies anyway.

Once you get the date from the magnetic strip card reader and it tells you exactly what employees accessed that area after you left, you now know exactly who to go to and get your answers. There is no denying what happened at that point because they are the only ones that went into the room between inventory counts and therefore are the ones that are responsible for the missing items.

While this example was used for a restaurant, it can be translated over to any business that has goods that can easily walk out the door. By making sure that you know who goes in and out, you can not only hold your staff accountable, but also deter them from stealing in the first place. It is quite tempting to help yourself to something when nobody knows who is doing it, but the mere threat of having your name in the daily lock diary may be enough to keep anyone from taking store inventory.

You can also use magnetic card readers to control door locks as well. For instance, maybe there is an area of your business that is accessible during the day because there is always a manager or guard there to control access. If you still have staff during the evening hours that are going to be there, but not allowed in that area, lock it off and only allow those with clearance to be able to access via a magnetic card reader lock system.

This is an inexpensive and very efficient way to make sure that you are protecting your investment. It lets your staff know you are on top of things and at the same time, will cost you very little money to implement. When you find that your inventory levels off, you can easily justify the cost of having a magnetic card reader put in.
